Media Awards 2012: Pictures
Tuesday 23/10 saw the tenth annual Media Awards event at GHS - the biggest and best yet - in a stunningly madeover school hall. To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the most iconic British screen hero, the theme was Bond, and the two hundred plus VIP student and staff guests dressed accordingly.
We were treated to superb renditions of Shirley Bassey theme tunes by Amrita; an inspirational speech from ex-student turned filmmaker, Tarun; and dozens of top notch practical productions from GCSE and A Level Media Studies students.
Thanks to Mandeep for taking these amazing pics...

Silver Screens of Southall
We staged the launch workshop of GHS's exciting new film project last week with Y12 Media students, young director Tarun Thind, a distinguished ex-student of ours, and Resource Productions.
The vision is to produce a short film that takes in Southall's rich cinema heritage, from the original movie studios here over one hundred years ago, to the plush theatres like the Himalaya in its prime, to the current links with Bollywood.
And we'll be developing History skills along the way by interviewing key local people involved in the industry such as Gurinder Chadha and Sanjeev Bhaskar, and this information will be archived at Gunnersbury House Museum.
There are further planning sessions for Y12s this term, from 3-5pm this Tuesday (10/07) and next Tuesday (17/07) in DF05, before we open up the project to other years. But Y12s are set to benefit most as participation will be a real asset on any UCAS application, with the chance to be involved in the shoot and post-production.
Have a look at Tarun's excellent short film, 'English', that he made in 2010, for an idea of his hugely promising talent...

A2 Print: Urban Gamer
Outstanding Y13 Print Production (2011) by Parminder and Ricky.
True Fact: Serious trouble resulted due to their ill-advised use of firearms props. Remember kids...don't carry a gun, even a toy one, when you're out on a (media) shoot!!
